Michael Glynn: A 22-Year Veteran Leader in Fire Service

Texas firefighter leader Michael Glynn has served firefighters in his community and around the nation for 22 years.

Michael began his professional fire service career with the San Antonio Fire Department where he worked at Fire Station 35 on the Hazardous Materials Team and promoted to Engineer. Since 2006, he has served with the Fort Worth Fire Department where he promoted to the rank of Captain.

As President of the Fort Worth Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 440, for more than 8 years Michael has successfully negotiated with city leaders for better wages, benefits and working conditions for firefighters, building on the momentum of respected local leaders before him. Michael has earned appointments from the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) and the Texas State Association of Fire Fighters (TSAFF) and is a frequent speaker at firefighter leadership events in Texas, Oklahoma and around the nation. He often helps IAFF and TSAFF affiliate locals in Texas establish political action committees to help firefighters build political rapport in community across the state. He has made hundreds of station visits through his IAFF and TSAFF service.

At the 2013 TSAFF Biennial Convention, Michael was elected as the Zone A Trustee and has also served as the appointed PAC Coordinator. Since 2021, he has served as the Chair of the TSAFF Board of Trustees.

Michael’s IAFF service includes being appointed by the General President in 2014 as an IAFF Partnership Education Program (PEP) Instructor where he is one of about 30 instructors across our 350,000-puus members. He proudly serves the Mighty 11th District as a Service Representative after being recommended by IAFF District Vice President Sandy McGhee for appointment in 2011. In 2021, he was appointed by the Governor of Texas as a Commissioner on the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) and was elected in August 2024 as the Assistant Presiding Officer.

While serving as Secretary-Treasurer of the Local 440 PAC Fund, Michael attended the 2010IAFF Political Training Academy. He has served on firefighter collective bargaining teams in San Antonio and Fort Worth and has successfully negotiated two labor agreements for Local 440 as chief negotiator.

Michael holds a BBA-Management with a Human Resources emphasis from Texas A University. In San Antonio, he continued his education and earned an AAS-Fire Science from San Antonio College. Michael is a Master Firefighter through the TCFP. He has continued to advance his labor education through LRIS, NCPERS, TEXPERS, the IAFF’s Redmond Symposium, IAFF ALTS six times since 2004, and the National Labor College.

Michael was elected by acclamation as the 11th District Vice President at the IAFF’s 57th Biennial Convention held in Boston, MA in August 2024. DVP Glynn represents the professional firefighters of Oklahoma, Texas, and the Panama Canal Zone.

A resident of Roanoke, Texas, Michael is a married father of two.
